Shaw Boulevard station, also called Shaw for short, is a station on the Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3 (MRT-3). Shaw Boulevard station is one of the many elevated stations that can be found on the line and is also considered as the "central terminal" of the line. Also, this is the only station with 2 tracks, 1 reserve route and 1 spur route and also the only elevated station in the MRT-3 to feature a concourse on top of the platforms at the 3rd level. The station is located in the Mandaluyong portion of Ortigas Centerand is named after Shaw Boulevard, since the station lies directly above the boulevard The station is the seventh station for trains headed to Taft Avenue and the seventh station for trains headed to North Avenue. The Shaw Boulevard station lies at the center of the whole line. The station serves the Ortigas Center and Greenfield business districts and is near three prominent shopping centers: Shangri-La Plaza, Pavilion Mall (formerly EDSA Central) and Starmall which are all connected by elevated pedestrian walkways. Commuters can also walk or take alternate forms of transportation to the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel and to SM Megamall. Other nearby landmarks include the San Miguel Corporation building, the Department of Education head office, University of Asia and the Pacific, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, St. Paul College Pasig, Astoria Plaza, PhilSports Arena, Capitol Commons, Ynares Sports Arena and the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club. The news network CNN Philippines is one of the landmarks from the station Shaw Boulevard station is a major transfer point for commuters taking other forms of transportation such as buses, taxis and jeepneys. Three major jeepneyand UV Express (air-conditioned jeepneys) terminals are located either directly below or close to the station. Buses that run along EDSA may be boarded below the station. For buses heading to Quezon City and points north, passengers may board at either EDSA Central Mall or walk towards Shangri-La Mall or SM Megamall. For buses heading to Makati and points south, passengers may board at either Starmall (near the jeepney terminal) or EDSA and Sultan Street (south of Parklea Center). Passengers may board taxis at various locations near the station. The closest taxi stands include Starmall, Greenfield District (at Santo Cristo Street), and Shangri-La Plaza (at the entrance opposite Shaw Boulevard).

The Long and high staircase to the station is understandable by me due to the Shaw flyover underneath and the EDSA-Shaw intersection under it and the EDSA tunnel underlying the intersection. The elevators deteriorate and becoming unusable. When arriving at the station, insufficient signs or markers could lead you down at the wrong place.

I don't like that the tracks are open. This is very dangerous to commuters, especially during the busiest times...

The long climb up the stairs makes this a bit of a hike. The washroom inside the gate makes it useable only to commuters. Northbound trips were said to start at 5:30 am. The guard stopped people from descending to the platform even after 5:30 am. The cashier and the guard at the gate politely reminded me that the northbound train doesn't arrive until 5:30, which was nice. The fare from shaw to kamuning was 16.00 pesos. Minimum regular fare. The experience wasn't anything special. First train arrived at 5:45 am. Wouldn't recommend using the metro rail transit as a form of transport to the weak of heart. People with asthma and medical conditions may also want to use other modes of transport as well. Efficient, but taxing. This was a commute on Sunday.

Good location. But it's very tiring to climb the many many stair steps for this station especially if you are carrying purchased items, or a backpack with laptop for work. I wish they have properly working escalators here at both sides of the station. It may get difficult to ride the train at this station during rush hour because trains are almost jam-packed at this point, and the passenger count here is one of the highest along the train path.
